Hair has always been a fun, dynamic and ever-changing part of being alive. You can fight it, roll with it, or challenge it — just to see what it will do. And in a few weeks, it’ll regrow and let the fun start all over again.
This is the heart of Notorious: you, having fun, with your hair. The salon’s design is a throwback to the vintage days of old Vegas, a time when polished style and rough edges all fit together and had a good time, no matter what they were into.
Notorious is a place where you can wet your whistle, relax with a beverage, recharge with a RedBull, or get into the candy stash if you know who to ask.
Vancouver-born Josh Taylor started his training at The London School of Hairdressing in 1996 before finishing with Suki’s Academy in 1997. After relocating to Calgary the following year, Josh worked at a variety of salons, where he developed two of his key talents — consistency and speed. Salon owners frequently asked him to waste time and slow down so customers would be more willing to pay outrageous prices. This never sat right with Josh, so he carved out his own space (and pace) at Lushus Concepts for 13 years, which allowed him to deliver speedy accuracy for reasonable prices. During this time he graced the cover of Swerve Magazine as one of Calgary’s top stylists (2005), won third place for colour at the national LA Biosthetics Awards, and most recently, became a product ambassador for EVO Hair. This was also where Josh established the comfortable, laid-back and completely unpretentious environment he’s now known for. Like every part of life, Josh believes that cutting hair, and getting your hair cut, should be fun, easy and rewarding. This belief eventually lead him to bring his 20 years of style to life by opening Notorious in 2016. Josh is a family man, a true professional, and a guy who’s always got time for a good time. He’s a people person, and as a testimony to his knack for building long-term clientele, Josh’s very first Calgary “regular” from 1998 is the author of this bio.
Stacey completed Delmar College of Hair Design in 2011, and won third place at Hair Wars the same year. After officially turning pro in 2013, she continued her extensive experience with extensions and built on her long-time love of braids and updos. This eventually got the attention of the “Notorious” Josh Taylor in 2014, and she’s been working with him ever since.
